Autism Assessments

Autism Assessments at The Neurodevelopment Clinic

At The Neurodevelopment Clinic, we offer autism assessments across the lifespan, from early childhood through to adulthood.

All assessments are conducted by clinical neuropsychologists with post-graduate training and experience in the assessment and diagnosis of autism. We follow the National Guidelines for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Conditions, using a combination of gold-standard tools, including:

  • The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2)

  • The Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R)

  • The Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing Autism Spectrum – Second Edition (MIGDAS)

But more importantly, our process is flexible, collaborative, and designed to meet each person where they are. We take particular care with clients who mask or camouflage their traits. This is a profile we are highly familiar with, and one we approach with nuance and respect. To learn more about autism in girls or high-masking individuals, check out our blog here.

What to Expect

The full assessment process includes:

  • A detailed clinical interview

  • Observations and cognitive testing (if needed)

  • Review of past reports or documents

  • Interpretation and integration of findings

  • A comprehensive written report with clear, individualised recommendations

If a diagnosis of autism is confirmed, the report can be used to support applications for funding or access to services. Reports are typically delivered within two to three weeks of the assessment date, followed by a feedback session to talk through results and next steps.

Whether you’re seeking answers for your child, or exploring your own experience, we’re here to help you make sense of things in a thoughtful and supportive way.
